CalgaryGrit: Everything You Always Wanted To Know About The Census (But Were Afraid To Ask)

CalgaryGrit: Everything You Always Wanted To Know About The Census (But Were Afraid To Ask)

Here is one of the most comprehensive and compelling blog post I have seen on the census fiasco.  Well worth a read.

Nobody cares about the irrelevant census except busybody progressive ninnies. Lots of European countries are doing away with it entirely.

    Anonymous. Deal with it.

You do realize this post didn't actually mention what the purpose of the census was right? Do you know what it is?

If you read the law (http://bit.ly/bTd1nw) you will see the Census exists to count the number of people so that the number can fit into a formula to determine how many seats each province gets in the house of commons.

That's it. That's why the census exists.

How can it be comprehensive if it doesn't mention the census' purpose? How can it be compelling if it doesn't speak to how it fits into our democracy?

  3. Anon at 11:05 - I read the Statistics Act - thanks for the link. My reading is that the Minister can do whatever he wants with the form of statistical surveys and compel compliance. The census is only only count and the short form is for that purpose.

The longer form survey is done concurrently with the census and is a statistical survey. It is not the census.

Don't let form trump substance. No problem for the longer form statistical survey being done concurrently with the census.
